Fauteuil "Rift" chez Moroso
Design Patricia Urquiola (2009)
Patricia Urquiola’s second design was inspired by rift valleys, hence the collection’s name, RIFT. The range includes two sofas, Aden Sofa and Afar Rift, plus Rift Armchair and Rift Chair. Just like tectonic plates, which diverge, collide and overlap, creating several layers, the Rift sofas and chairs convey, in a highly unusual way, an effect of a sliding movement and asymmetric fusion.
Patricia Urquiola was born in Oviedo, Spain, and now lives and works in Milan. She studied architecture at the polytechnics of Madrid and Milan, graduating from the latter in 1989. She was assistant to Achille Castiglioni and Eugenio Bettinelli at Milan Polytechnic from 1990 to 1996. In the same years she ran De Padova’s product development department and designed in collaboration with Vico Magistretti. In 2001 she opened her own product design, exhibition and architecture firm. She works with the leading manufacturers. Patricia Urquiola has won many prestigious prizes, including Designer of the Year, Elle Decor International Design Awards, Chicago Artenaeum Good Design Award and the Cologne Design award.
